BEWARE utter nonsense: Media (Telegraph and Daily Mail) claiming that “HMS Prince of Wales ground to a halt off the Isle of Wight because the propeller shaft wasn't greased properly”.

She remains at anchor off the Isle of wight while engineering assements are made. RN has not made any further announcements about future plans as yet. She is likely to have to go into dry dock, most likley in Rosyth, although there are rumours of Amsterdam or Belfast.

"Fragata da Rainha" que se encontra em Portugal prestou homenagem à Rainha Isabel II

O HMS Lancaster, da Marinha Real Britânica, prestou esta tarde em Troia uma homenagem à Rainha Isabel II realizando 96 salvas, a idade da monarca que faleceu esta quinta-feira, dia 8 de setembro.

O navio inglês, um dos meios que irá participar no exercício REPMUS22, chegou ontem a Troia, onde se localiza o Centro de Experimentação Operacional da Marinha (CEOM), para participar no exercício REPMUS22, cuja fase de mar tem início na segunda-feira.

O HMS Lancaster é apelidado de a "Fragata da Rainha" devido ao título de Duque de Lancaster que a Rainha também possuía.

Na cerimónia de homenagem participaram ainda todos os participantes que já se encontram no CEOM e que irão estar presentes no maior exercício que se realiza em Portugal dedicado à experimentação robótica e de veículos não-tripulados e que é co-organizado pela Marinha Portuguesa, pela Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto (FEUP), pelo Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation (CMRE) e pela NATO Maritime Unmanned Systems Initiative (NATO MUSI).

Britain spent billions on new frigates in the last five years

The UK has spent billions of pounds on the Royal Navy’s new Type 26 and Type 31 frigates, data provided by Alec Shelbrooke, Minister of State at the Ministry of Defence, show.

Since 2017, approximately £2.5 billion ($2.8 billion) has been spent on the Type 26 frigates. From year to year, the data show that £288.8 million were spent in FY 2017-2018, £464.4 million in 2018-2019, and £507 million in FY2019-2020.

In the last two years, the costs rose to £572.3 million in FY 2020-2021 and £642.2. million in the fiscal year 2021-2022. The complete costs made during this fiscal year are not available yet, Shelbrooke noted.

Meanwhile, the UK has cashed £75.4 million for Type 31 frigates in the fiscal year 2019-2020. In the next two years, the costs went up with £199.2 million spent in FY 2020-2021 and £252.6 million in FY 2021-2022, which makes around half a billion pounds (£527 million or $603 million) spent on the new Type 31 frigates.

Royal Navy’s Type 26 frigates are being built by UK shipbuilder BAE Systems. The company recently confirmed that the first vessel of the class, HMS Glasgow, is scheduled to enter the water next year.

BAE Systems received a £3.7 billion contract in 2017 for the construction of the first three vessels. However, the procurement of the Batch 2 Type 26 frigates is expected to happen “in the early 2020s”, according to the UK Government.

Each of the Type 26 units will be equipped with a range of advanced capabilities including the Sea Ceptor missile defense system, a 5-inch medium caliber gun, flexible mission bay, Artisan 997 Medium Range Radar and towed array sonar.

Their flexible design will allow the weapon systems to be adapted throughout the lifespan to counter future threats.

On the other hand, the Type 31 frigates are being constructed by shipbuilding firm Babcock International. The construction of the first of five new Type 31 frigates began in April this year.

Marinha britânica investiga acusações de abuso a mulheres em submarinos


O chefe do Estado-Maior da Marinha de Guerra do Reino Unido, almirante Ben Key, afirmou que irão ser investigadas as "desagradáveis" acusações de abuso sexual a mulheres nos submarinos britânicos na última década, reporta hoje o tabloide Daily Mail.

O diário britânico publicou depoimentos sobre uma "lista de violações" para determinar a ordem em que as mulheres da tripulação seriam atacadas em caso de acidente subaquático, bem como relatos detalhados de abusos, maus-tratos e insultos.

"Estou profundamente preocupado com as alegações de comportamento inadequado no serviço submarino e quero garantir ao nosso povo, e a qualquer pessoa que leia isso, que qualquer atividade que não garanta os altos padrões que a Marinha Real estabelece para si mesma é totalmente inaceitável", garantiu Ben Key num comunicado.

"Ordenei uma investigação minuciosa. Qualquer pessoa considerada culpada deve assumir a responsabilidade pelos seus atos, independentemente da posição ou estatuto", acrescentou.

Os depoimentos recolhidos pelo Daily Mail asseguram que os abusos ocorrem há mais de uma década, desde que o veto foi levantado em 2011 para que as mulheres pudessem fazer parte da tripulação da frota submarina britânica, que inclui quatro navios Vanguard armados com mísseis nucleares.
