 According to information published by the Cadena Ser on June 24, 2023, the Spanish Finance Minister María Jesús Montero announces that July 3 will mark the day for the Moroccan Avante class corvette's steel cutting ceremony at the Navantia San Fernando shipyard.



The AVANTE family caters to a broad spectrum of patrol vessels, taking into account four diverse mission types: research, support, patrol, and combat. Moreover, it accommodates a wide array of displacements from 300 to 3,000 tonnes. From missile launchers, hydrographic vessels, and coast guard vessels to high-altitude patrol boats and combat-ready patrol vessels.

Consequently, vessels can be equipped with flight platforms for air operations, a hangar, hybrid propulsion systems, auxiliary vessels such as RHIBS, and the ability to operate multi-mission module containers. Furthermore, each ship is prepared to incorporate future equipment upgrades without the necessity for significant structural modifications.

The Avante 1800 and Avante 1400 are two distinct yet robust models in the Avante family by Navantia.

The Avante 1800 boasts an overall length of 89.0 meters and a maximum beam of 13.3 meters. With a draught of 4.0 meters, she possesses a full load displacement of 2,100 tonnes. The vessel can reach a maximum speed of 26 knots and a range of 4,000 nautical miles at 15 knots, combining speed and endurance effectively.

On the other hand, the Avante 1400 exhibits an overall length of 79.9 meters and a beam of 11.5 meters. With a maximum load draught of 4 meters, she holds a full load displacement of 1,500 tonnes.

The ship reaches a maximum speed of over 22 knots and covers a range of 4,000 nautical miles. She can accommodate up to 35 crew members and an additional 29 personnel.

Navantia lays the keel of the offshore patrol vessel for the Royal Moroccan Navy



On September 06, 2024, the Navantia San Fernando Shipyard has carried out the keel laying milestone of the offshore patrol vessel that the company is building for the Royal Moroccan Navy.

The event, which has been held as a working act, was attended by the major coronel of the Moroccan Navy, Mohammed Sallouh, who has been received by the president of Navantia, Ricardo Domínguez; the Operations and Business director, Gonzalo Mateo-Guerrero, and the director of the Corvette and BAM Business, Alberto Cervantes.

The keel laying has happened in the harrow number three of the San Fernando Shipyard. The placing of the block on the harrow, with the help of cranes, marks the beginning of the construction on the harrow where the ship begins to take shape, while the production of the next blocks continues. This event was attended by the members of the Navantia working team.

The patrol vessel, that will the number 565 construction of Navantia San Fernando, will have a length of 87 metres and an overall width of 13 metres, and will host a crew of 60 people on board. Its construction will involve for the shipyard and the collaborating industry more than one million hours of work.

Last January, Navantia San Fernando received the visit of the highest representative of the Royal Moroccan Navy, Rear Admiral Mohamed Tahin, Royal Navy Inspector, who supervised the construction works of the patrol vessel after its start in July 2023.

The construction of this patrol vessel for Morocco also includes a technical-logistical support package (spare parts, tools and technical documentation), including technical training services for the Royal Moroccan Navy in Spain.

The patrol vessel is a solution that ensures long periods of deployment at sea with very low operating and life-cycle costs. To this end, the design of its systems aims to maintain operability, maintainability and reliability with a reduced crew.
